Polyphenyl Ether Fluids/Lubricants

Santovac Fluids LLC specializes in the development, manufacture and marketing of "extreme environment" lubricants, fluids and greases. One family of products offered by Santovac Fluids falls within the class called Polyphenyl Ethers.  PPE's are considered the choice lubricants for equipment that operate within "extreme environments". These lubricants can withstand extremely  high temperatures and pressures and are resistant to chemical and radiation attack. PPE's are used in ultra high vacuum diffusion pumps, in connectors as contact lubricants and optical fluids in many photo-electrical applications.

Some of the specific products being produced and marketed today by Santovac Fluids LLC include the following:

 1. SANTOVAC 0S-105 Diphenyl Ether Fluid

Santovac OS-105 is a low viscosity, thermally stable diphenyl ether fluid. It has very low volatility and preserves resistance to degradation from heat, oxygen and chemical attack. OS-105 is designed for applications where ordinary hydrocarbons and ester-based products would not offer adequate thermal and oxidative stability to the end product. It can be used for applications requiring a broad operating temperature range from -40°C to +200°C. Typical applications include high performance grease base-stock, or component, connector lubricants, compressor lubricants, bearing lubricants and vapor phase lubricants.

 2. SANTOVAC OS-113 Diphenyl Ether Fluid

Santovac OS-113 is a high viscosity, thermally stable diphenyl ether fluid.  It has very low volatility and preserves resistance to degradation from heat and oxygen.  OS-113 is designed for applications where ordinary hydrocarbons and ester-based products would not offer adequate thermal and oxidative stability to the end product.  It can be used for applications requiring a broad operating temperature range from -40°C to +250°C.  Typical applications include high performance grease base-stock, or component, connector lubricants, bearing lubricants and vapor phase lubricants.

 3. SANTOVAC OS-124 Polyphenyl Ether Lubricant/Fluid

This unique lubricant/fluid was developed for extreme environments. It possesses extraordinary resistance to degradation from heat, oxygen, radiation, hydrolysis, and chemical attack. It is non-toxic and requires no special handling.

OS-124 is non-migrating (stays where it is applied) and it is compatible with most metals, plastics and elastomers. Applications for this lubricant fluid include high temperature hydraulic and heat transfer fluids, lubricants for electronic components, connectors and equipment, power plants, medical devices, various types of bearings, and high temperature greases.

 4. SANTOVAC OS-138 Polyphenyl Ether High Temperature Lubricant

OS-138 is an advanced polyphenyl ether compound having a higher molecular weight than that of OS–124.  This physical property allows OS–138 to be used at higher temperatures in certain applications.

 5. SANTOVAC 5 Vacuum Pump Fluid

Santovac 5 Polyphenyl Ether is a vacuum diffusion pump fluid which operates efficiently, economically and safely to produce ultra-high vacuums of 4 x 10^-10 torr, and higher, at 25°C. Diffusion pumps are the most economical and reliable means of reaching these low pressures and Santovac 5 has proven to be the best pump fluid available for this type of equipment.

 6. SANTOVAC 5P Ultra Vacuum Pump Fluid

This is an advanced high purity diffusion pump fluid used in critical applications requiring contamination–free ultra-high vacuum environments.  Santovac 5P Ultra accomplishes this requirement through its extremely low back streaming characteristic, a result of the fluid's very high purity.

 7. SKYLUBRICANT 600 (or SKYLUBLUBRICANT I) Aviation Fluid

This is a high temperature hydraulic and heat transfer fluid used in certain types of aircraft.

 8. SKYLUBRICANT II Aviation Fluid

Skylubricant II is an advanced aviation fluid and lubricant recently developed for extreme aerospace environments.

 9. C-ETHER or MCS-293 Lubricant/Fluid

This unique compound is referred to as a Polyphenyl Thioether. It has been used as a jet engine lubricant, vapor phase lubricant, high temperature grease base-fluid etc. for improved equipment performance, fire safety and fatigue life.

11. SANTOVAC® Electrical Contact Connector Lubricants

Santovac® Connector Lubricants have a 30-year history of commercial service for connectors with precious and base metal contacts in telecom, automotive, aerospace, instrumentation and general purpose applications.  Many billions of contacts have been protected by Santovac-PPE's or Polyphenyl Ether ( OS-124®, OS-138® ) based lubricant formulations.  A highly stable, non-spreading film ( 15 — 20 microns) is formed on connectors/terminals.  This affords long-term lubrication and protection even when the connectors are exposed to aggressive atmospheres.  Santovac Connector Lubricants reduce insertion force, minimize wear and maintain low and stable contact resistance.  In addition these lubricants eliminate all forms of corrosion including "fretting corrosion".  These lubricants will continue to work for decades or the life of the equipment.  An ultraviolet dye is incorporated in all Santovac Connector Lubricants for easy identification during quality control inspections.  PPE's have been certified by Telecordia / Bellcore, AT&T, and Bell Labs.  The following Santovac Connector Lubricants are widely used and specified by major OEM's:

12. Radiation Resistant Fluids & Greases

In environments exposed to significant radiation the choice of lubricant becomes critical, particularly when the radiation consists of short-wavelength, highly energetic ionizing radiation such as gamma rays, x-rays, and subatomic charged particles. Polyphenyl Ether based lubricants are not damaged by such radiation up to 10¹¹ ergs/gram, while other hydrocarbon-based lubricants turn to viscous gels.

PPE based lubricants are, therefore, widely used in nuclear power plants, space satellites, nuclear submarines, food sterilization equipment, radiation chemistry laboratories and medical imaging systems.

13. Optical Gels & Fluids

Santovac® Polyphenyl Ether based transparent optical fluids are chemically inert, synthetic polymers designed for sensitive photonics and electro-optics.  These materials are designed to have excellent purity and thermo oxidative stability, ultra-low volatility, and radiation stability. We offer standard fluids with refractive index ranging from 1.62 to 1.67 to index match with AR coatings such as MgF₂ and silica. These optical fluids are also sold under the SantoLight trade names.

14. SANTOLUBES™ RP-907 (FKA TKO₂)
      Long Term Rust Preventative, Cleaner and Lubricant

Santolubes™ RP-907 (FKA TKO₂) is a barium free, non-staining, water displacing, long-term rust preventative, cleaner and lubricant. It penetrates and spreads rapidly to applied areas. Santolubes™ RP-907 forms a thin highly protective film on ferrous metals that protects  surfaces from atmospheric corrosion even under conditions of high humidity.
